E3 2009 previews: Activision, Capcom, EA, Ubisoft

We've now reached the heavy hitters in Game Hunters publisher previews ahead of the Electronic Entertainment Expo. The following four are responsible for a few of the big titles arriving this year and beyond. With that in mind, let's get right to the tales of the tape.

Two games to watch:
Modern Warfare 2: No surprise here. Expectations are riding high for Infinity Ward's follow up to arguably the best first-person shooter of this console generation. Modern Warfare 2 also marks the debut of cooperative play in the form of Special Forces mode.

Tony Hawk: Ride: The long-running skateboarding series -- now competing with Electronic Arts series Skate -- returns with a brand new peripheral. Wonder how much that will cost consumers.

Wild card:
Guitar Hero is everywhere, between Aerosmith, Metallica, World Tour and the upcoming Guitar Hero 5 and separate Van Halen game. Will consumers reach Hero overload?

Best known for: Resident Evil, Street Fighter

Two games to watch:
Dark Void: Sci-fi action game features a jet-packing, futuristic version of The Rocketeer. Beyond standard run-and-gun style action, players engage in vertical combat, including the ablility to hijack flying ships.

Lost Planet 2: Third-person shooter pits a group of heroes against aliens called the Akrid. The highlight of its predecessor was punishing enemies with mechanized assault vehicles called Vital Suits. Hopefully, combat outside the Vital Suit is more engaging.

Wild card:
Capcom has had an impressive year thus far with follow-ups for known commodities such as Resident Evil and Street Fighter. Will brand new franchise Dark Void exhibit enough personality to break through as their next big series?

Publisher: Electronic Arts

Best known for: Madden NFL, Burnout, Battlefield

Two games to watch:
Brutal Legend: Tim Schafer, the man behind Grim Fandango and Psychonauts, returns with the tale of a heavy metal roadie sucked into an alternate universe. Hero Eddie Riggs, voiced by actor Jack Black, uses guitar riffs to thrash enemies and command a growing army.

Mass Effect 2: The role-playing game known for its robust story and players' ability to dictate the dialogue returned with an incredible teaser in February. The big question will be whether studio BioWare has fixed the combat for the sequel.

Wild card:
Players have seen games based on movies and television shows. But how about one inspired by literature from the 14th century? That’s what EA has created in Dante's Inferno, a game based on the Divine Comedy. So just how does a game like this play?

Best known for: Tom Clancy franchise (Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell)

Two games to watch:
Assassin's Creed II: The third-person action game shifts gears from Jerusalem during the era of the Crusades to the Italian Renaissance. Leonardo Da Vinci's flying machine is among many of the new items at the disposal of assassin Ezio.

Red Steel 2: Some critics slammed the first Red Steel, a Nintendo Wii launch title, for rough motion controls. But that may improve for the sequel with the introduction of Wii MotionPlus.

Wild card:
It's been a while since we've heard from one of the flagship Tom Clancy franchises, particularly Splinter Cell. Ubisoft's CEO recently hinted the stealth series would return this holiday. Will Sam Fisher make a comeback at E3?

RIM Launches BlackBerry App World

Its over-the-air store for Blackberry applications puts Research In Motion on par with Apple's App Store and Google's Android Market.

BlackBerry users now have an app store of their own, as Research In Motion has launched its BlackBerry App World for discovering and buying new mobile programs.
App World offers an over-the-air way for BlackBerry users to find, download, purchase, and install applications. RIM said it has lined up thousands of developers to contribute content, and has organized the store by categories that include entertainment, news, music and video, and travel. App World launched with programs from the likes of The New York Times, Facebook, MySpace, Bloomberg, Major League Baseball, and more.

Developers get to keep 80% of the revenue from any sold app, which is 10% more than they get from Apple's App Store for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Content creators have to pay $200 a year to put up to 10 apps in the virtual store, which is a bit more than developers pay to enter Apple's store or Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT)'s upcoming app store.

While there are multiple free apps in the store, users can purchase apps using a PayPal account. By clicking on the "purchase" button, a secure login page for PayPal pops up to complete the transaction. Unlike the iPhone, where 99 cents is a popular price point, the minimum price for App World apps is $2.99. It's unclear how this higher price point will affect adoption, or if the use of PayPal will be a hindrance.

Organizations that have deployed BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BlackBerry Professional Software will retain control of which applications can be downloaded to BlackBerry smartphones within their corporate deployments.

The move shows the growing importance of apps for smartphones; soon every major platform will have a way for users to download apps over the air to their handsets.

iPhone OS 3.0 beta 2 now available

Apple has posted iPhone OS 3.0 beta 2 (build 7A259g) in the iPhone Dev Center. The download is only available to registered iPhone developers and weighs in at 2.13GB.

According to Ars Technica the second public developer build of iPhone 3.0 contains minor updates, bug fixes and no new functionality. Sources tell Ars that Apple is warning developers to avoid its tethering and MMS features because they “are not supported, and should not be used.”

As with the the previous developer build (7A238j) Apple warns:

Devices updated to iPhone 3.0 beta can not be restored to earlier versions of iPhone OS. Devices will be able to upgrade to future beta releases and the final iPhone OS 3.0 software.

Also it’s wise to avoid the temptation to install an unlicensed version of iPhone 3.0 as it has been known to turn your iPhone into an iBrick.

Conficker worm is no April Fool's joke

I have an apple and I don't know if it will be affected like most PCs will be. I don't think I have anything to worry about since their security is much better than PCs. I do have a lot of friends though who are freaking out about the Conficker worm and will not even be getting online tomorrow.

Cyber security experts are warning that a new variation of Conficker, a fast-spreading computer worm also known as Downadup, could attack millions of computers on Wednesday -- April Fool's Day.

Personal computers and laptops already infected with Conficker could automatically be linked to the servers operated by the hackers.

Esteban O. Farao, a consultant with Enterprise Risk Management, a Miami security consulting company, said the worm is not destroying files or stealing data, but it has the capability to do so.

"The main concern about this worm is that it is capable of downloading additional code from the hacker's Web site or through a peer-to-peer connection," Farao said. "Consequently it can bring more functionalities or receive instructions."

Experts say it's unknown whether the worm will cause havoc or merely turn out to be an April's Fool prank. But people can protect their computers by using security software.

Howard Schmidt, a former White House cyber security adviser, said computer users need to download an application of Microsoft software to detect and disable the worm.

Experts also advise keeping your security applications and operating systems updated.

"The most interesting thing about this worm is that every time someone finds out a way to get rid of the worm, it reinvents itself with more rigor and better technology," Schmidt said.

Authorities have not identified the culprits behind the worm or their intentions. Microsoft has offered a $250,000 reward to bring the Conficker creator to justice.

The Conficker worm, which has infected 10 million computers outside the United States, is a program that exploits weaknesses in Microsoft's Windows operating system including Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008.

The worm surfaced last November in computers on weak networks such as those in coffee shops, airport or offices. The second variation can spread via shared networks, including removable drives such as USB devices.

This worm also blocks infected systems from downloading new security software or receiving updates for security software. After attacking, it connects to a server where it receives instructions to propagate and gather personal information. Conficker creates a back door in the system where the worm can download and install additional programs.

Albert Whale, owner of ABS Computer Technology Inc., a Pittsburgh company that offers computer consulting services, said experts think the hackers are making money by getting information to send spam or attack people they don't like.

"Hackers spend 24 hours a day perfecting their craft," Whale said. "People don't even spend an hour a week securing their computers."

Conficker worm come April 1

In an event that hits the computer world only once every few years, security experts are racing against time to mitigate the impact of a bit of malware which is set to wreak havoc on a hard-coded date. As is often the case, that date is April 1.

Malware creators love to target April Fool's Day with their wares, and the latest worm, called Conficker C, could be one of the most damaging attacks we've seen in years.

Conficker first bubbled up in late 2008 and began making headlines in January as known infections topped 9 million computers. Now in its third variant, Conficker C, the worm has grown incredibly complicated, powerful, and virulent... though no one is quite sure exactly what it will do when D-Day arrives.

Thanks in part to a quarter-million-dollar bounty on the head of the writer of the worm, offered by Microsoft, security researchers are aggressively digging into the worm's code as they attempt to engineer a cure or find the writer before the deadline. What's known so far is that on April 1, all infected computers will come under the control of a master machine located somewhere across the web, at which point anything's possible. Will the zombie machines become denial of service attack pawns, steal personal information, wipe hard drives, or simply manifest more traditional malware pop-ups and extortion-like come-ons designed to sell you phony security software? No one knows.

Conficker is clever in the way it hides its tracks because it uses an enormous number of URLs to communicate with HQ. The first version of Conficker used just 250 addresses each day -- which security researchers and ICANN simply bought and/or disabled -- but Conficker C will up the ante to 50,000 addresses a day when it goes active, a number which simply can't be tracked and disabled by hand.

At this point, you should be extra vigilant about protecting your PC: Patch Windows completely through Windows Update and update your anti-malware software as well. Make sure your antivirus software is actually running too, as Conficker may have disabled it.

Microsoft also offers a free online safety scan here, which should be able to detect all Conficker versions.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs Takes Medical Leave of Absence

Well this doesn't sound good at all for Apple. I know that Apple Stock has dropped almost 10 % in after hours trading which is to be expected right after news like this. It will be interesting how Apple moves foreward from this. They should have some new gizmo in their back pocket that they can unveil while Jobs is out so it will show more confidence that Apple can survive without Jobs in the Long run. And who knows maybe Apple has that up their sleeve. It will also be interesting to see if Apple now goes through Layoffs or if Jobs even comes back at all. It doesn't sound good for the future of the company. But Jobs should of made a strong foundation that should have Apple running lightyears after he passes anyways.

Apple chief executive Steve Jobs today announced that he will take a leave of absence as a result of health concerns.

"During the past week I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought," Jobs wrote in an e-mail sent to all Apple employees.

He said he intends to return to the company at the end of June.

Speculation about Jobs's health has swayed the company's share prices during the past year as his increasingly gaunt appearance left some investors worried. The iconic tech leader, who is often viewed as the main driving force for his company's recent successes, was treated for pancreatic cancer several years ago.

Jobs did not deliver a keynote at the recent Mac-centric trade show this year, citing a hormone imbalance. The company's share price rose 4 percent on the news, a result of investor relief that Jobs was not suffering a recurrence of cancer.

Apple products, particularly the iPod and iPhone, have gained a rare kind of loyalty from customers, and much of the credit is given to Jobs's demanding leadership. He is reputedly relentless in his demands that Apple engineers make products that simplify technology, an approach that often gives the company's products a minimalist chic.

In 2004, Jobs received a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and had surgery, which apparently was successful. Last June, however, Jobs appeared gaunt and the uncertainty over his health created new worries for investors. Stock prices suffered as a result.

Concern about Jobs's health heightened Dec. 16, when the company announced that he would not attend Macworld, a conference that he has addressed in his trademark black turtleneck for several years. Instead, the company sent marketing chief Philip Schiller to make a presentation.

Apple's stock fell as much as 10 percent after the company made that announcement.

Jobs was forced to address the rumors last week. In recent months, Jobs and the Apple board had declined to provide more information about the chief executive's health.

"Unfortunately, my decision to have Phil deliver the Macworld keynote set off another flurry of rumors about my health, with some even publishing stories of me on my deathbed," he wrote on Jan. 5. "I've decided to share something very personal with the Apple community so that we can all relax and enjoy the show tomorrow.

"As many of you know, I have been losing weight throughout 2008," his note said. "The reason has been a mystery to me and my doctors."

Jobs said that the cause of his troubles was a "hormone imbalance."

I wonder if this was just another hacker trying to be funny, corporate espionage, or somebody who was trying to short on Apple stock and found a way to try and make some big money. Anyway you slice it, it is pretty bad that you are trying to tell the world that the person who brought us the ipod is dead. Steve Jobs is alilve of course.

Surfacing rumors of Steve Jobs death have been going around the internet as of late. MacRumors, one of many cover sites for Apple's annual Macworld prodcut launches, was apparently hacked.

The people who hacked MacRumors made false news of Steve Jobs' death. Valleywag.com had posted an image of what the hacked page looked like. Steve Jobs is still alive, despite is weight loss he is working on himself currently according to reports.

Could the hackers been trying to spook people? Many fix the stocks? Who knows, but hopefully the criminals are caught.

Samsung unveils world's slimmest TV

I can't wait to see this TV in action. Hopefully one day I will have one. Even though I don't really need a new TV. I like my LCD right now just fine. I wonder if this is going to start a new wave of TV that are going to start being made. I also wonder how heavy the new Samsung TV weighs.

SEOUL (AFP) - South Korea's Samsung Electronics on Monday unveiled what it says is the world's slimmest LCD (liquid crystal display) TV.

The new product, measuring only 6.5 millimetres (0.26 inch) thick, is thinner than any other existing TV set, and even slimmer than most mobile handsets, Samsung said in a statement.

Its thickness is one seventh of Samsung's "Bordeaux 850" LCD TVs, which is currently the thinnest on the market, the company said.

The new product, which adopts an LED (light emitting diode) backlighting system, will be on display at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas from January 8 to 11, Samsung added.

Macworld 2009 rumors

This will be Apple's last Macworld for now. So hopefully they will have some very interesting things to come out with. Go out with a bang as they say. But then again many people might not be expecting much since Steve Jobs won't be delivering the keynote.

Apple’s (AAPL) last Macworld Conference and Expo opens Monday at San Francisco’s Moscone Center, but the real action starts Tuesday at 9 a.m. PT (12 noon ET) with senior vice president Phil Schiller’s opening remarks — the first Macworld keynote not delivered by Steve Jobs since 1997.

Nobody’s expecting breakthrough products that rise to the level of the iMac (Macworld 1998), the iBook (1999), iTunes (2001) or the iPhone (2007), but this Expo is not without its drama, speculation and hype.

Our top 10 favorite Macworld rumors:

10. Snow Leopard release date. We know a lot about Mac OS X 10.6, thanks to Jobs’ June 2008 announcement that it was coming, Apple’s official description of the product and a steady stream of leaks from the developer community. What we don’t know is when it will ship.

9. Unibody 17-inch MacBook Pro. By several accounts, this machine was supposed to be released in October, along with the new unibody 13-inch MacBook and 15-inch MacBook Pro. But display issues and problems with the optical drive reportedly pushed its release back “several months” — which brings us to next week’s Expo. UPDATE: Seth Weintraub at 9to5Mac adds this twist: the new 17-inch Pro will sport a superslim longer-lasting nonremovable battery pack.

8. Revamped iWork. The big news on New Year’s Eve was the “truckload” of information dumped on various rumor sites about iWork — Apple’s homegrown answer to Microsoft (MSFT) Office. The thrust of it was that what’s now a suite of desktop applications — Pages, Numbers and Keynote — is about to be transformed into a collection of Web-based apps like the .Mac Web Gallery, suitable for cloud computing.

7. 32 GB iPhone. Whispers that Apple was set to double the memory of the top-end iPhone have been floating around since September, but AT&T’s (T) post-Christmas $99 iPhone sale and word that Apple had sewed up the lion’s share Samsung’s flash memory production all point to a January release.

6. 64 GB iPod touch. Rumors of this memory upgrade go back even further. It was supposed to happen in August, then in September, and then before Christmas. With memory prices falling, time is more than ripe.

5. New Mac mini. Rumors of the most affordable Mac’s imminent demise have given way to a flood of new specs, among them 2.0 or 2.3 GHz Core 2 Duo processors, NVIDIA graphics platform, dual display outputs and dual drives that can be configured every which way.

4. New iMac. Some inspired sleuthing in the extension files that shipped with the new MacBooks found references to NVIDIA chipsets for both a Mac mini and a new iMac — along with hints that the reconfigured all-in-one desktop was supposed to ship in November but got pushed into 2009 by unexpected delays. DigiTimes now reports that Apple has ordered shipments of 800,000 per month.

3. New iPod shuffle. FBR Capital Markets’ Craig Berger, whose track record AppleInsider describes as “questionable,” expects Apple to release a new and smaller version of the iPod shuffle sometime in the first calendar quarter — which started on Thursday. AppleInsider adds that it has picked up chatter of a new shuffle that would be flat as a credit card but thick enough at one end to fit a headphone jack.

2. New Apple TV/Time Capsule. This one also comes from an analyst. Shaw Wu, a veteran Apple watcher newly ensconsed at Kaufman Bros., wrote last week about the possibility that Apple will introduce a new consumer device — “an enhanced version of Apple TV and/or Time Capsule” — that would give users access to their media content, SlingBox style, from anywhere on the Internet.

1. Steve Jobs. Show or no-show, Apple’s CEO is both Macworld 2009’s No. 1 rumor and No. 1 source of rumors — whether it be that he’s stepping down, that his health is failing, that he doesn’t feel there’s enough news in Nos. 1-9 to justify a Steve Jobs keynote, or that he just doesn’t feel like playing in Macworld’s sandbox anymore. We favor the theory that he’s set the stage brilliantly for a surprise cameo appearance.

Below the line:

iPhone nano. Despite all the chatter — and spy photos — not this Macworld. Maybe later this year.
iPod tablet. Maybe later this year. Maybe never.

Track Santa All day - Norad Tracking Santa

The military personnel charged with being the eyes in the sky are certainly acting like he does — and they've been joined on the Internet by millions of believers.

Even doubters have reason to pause when they hear the North American Aerospace Defense Command — or NORAD, which monitors air and space threats against the U.S. and Canada — is in charge of the annual Christmas mission to keep children informed of Santa's worldwide journey to their homes.

"They challenge it, but only to a point," said Senior Master Sgt. Sharon Ryder-Platts, 49, who for five years has been a Santa tracker, taking calls from those wanting to know the location of jolly old St. Nick.

According to NORAD, Santa began his latest flight early Wednesday at the International Date Line in the Pacific Ocean. Historically, Santa visits the South Pacific first, then New Zealand and Australia. NORAD points out that only Santa knows his route.

Last year, NORAD's Santa tracking center answered 94,000 calls and responded to 10,000 e-mails. About 10.6 million visitors went to the Web site, which can be viewed in English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Japanese and Chinese.

NORAD's holiday tradition can by traced to 1955, when a Colorado Springs newspaper printed a Sears, Roebuck & Co. ad telling children of a phone number to talk to Santa. The number was one digit off, and the first child to get through reached the Continental Air Defense Command, NORAD's predecessor.

Col. Harry W. Shoup answered.

Shoup's daughter, Terri Van Keuren, said her dad, now 91, was surprised to hear that the little voice on the other end thought he was Santa.

"Dad thought, `What the heck? This must be some kind of code,'" said Van Keuren, 59.

Shoup, described by his daughter as "just a nut about Christmas," didn't want to break the boy's heart, so he sounded a booming "Ho, ho, ho!" and pretended to be Santa Claus.

Enough calls followed that Shoup assigned an officer to answer them while the problem was fixed. But Shoup and the staff he was directing to "locate" Santa on radar ended up embracing the idea. NORAD picked up the tradition when it was formed 50 years ago.

"If we didn't do it, truly I don't know who else would track Santa," Maj. Stacia Reddish said.

The task that began with no computers and only a 60-by-80-foot glass map of North America now includes two big screens on a wall showing the world and information on each country Santa Claus visits. It took off with the Web site's 1997 launch, Reddish said.

Now, curious youngsters can follow Santa's path online with a Google two-dimensional map or in 3D using Google Earth, where he can be seen flying through different landscapes in his sleigh.

"For someone like myself, my son is older, you know it just keeps you in touch with the spirit of Santa Claus," she said. "I miss out on that at home so this keeps me close to Santa. I believe! It keeps me in touch with other believers."

Lenovo IdeaPad S9 Available in the U.S.

I think that it might be alittle to late though to make any serious cash off this product. Sure it is a great product, but no one is really buying anything right now. They are probably going to have to come down in price before they see any real revenue from the IdeaPad.

It was in August that Lenovo first announced it was entering the netbook PC market with its new IdeaPad S10 and S9 netbooks, although at the time the IdeaPad S9 was not scheduled to come Stateside. It took a few months, but the IdeaPad S9 eventually did make it, as online retailers in the United States are now listing it for purchase.

The Lenovo IdeaPad S9 comes equipped with an Intel Atom N270 processor (1.6 GHz single-core), Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics, 512 MB of DDR2 memory and a 4 GB SLC-based SSD. The LED back-lit display is 8.9-inches in size, has a resolution of 1024 by 600 and includes a 0.3-megapixel webcam integrated into the bevel around the display. The system also comes with a useful OneKey Rescue System button, stereo speakers, 802.11g WiFi, Bluetooth, 10/100 Ethernet, two USB 2.0 ports, an ExpressCard slot, media card reader and VGA output.

From the photos, the IdeaPad S9 look like a mini Thinkpad notebook, weighing just 2.43-pounds and measuring no more than 1.1-inches thick. The operating system that is included is Linpus Linux Lite, which should be fine if you plan on using the netbook for just general tasks. There is no mention of which battery is included, so expect only a couple hours of battery life. As for price, the IdeaPad S9 is listed for $344.99 at Geeks.com and for $359.46 at Buy.com.

If you are not too picky about screen size, Lenovo.com is selling the larger IdeaPad S10 for just $349. It features the same Intel Atom N270 processor, 512 MB of DDR2 memory, an 80 GB 5400 RPM HDD, integrated webcam and Windows XP Home. Although the display on the IdeaPad S10 is about an inch larger, it comes with the same screen resolution of 1024 by 600.

Microsoft's Internet Explorer security patch is now available, as is a security update for Mozilla's Firefox browser. Here's a breakdown of what you need and where you can get it.

Microsoft's IE patch, coded KB960714 and part of Security Bulletin MS08-078, is considered a critical update for all Internet Explorer users. It fixes the much-publicized Internet Explorer flaw found last week that can let remote attackers gain access to your passwords and personal information. The fix is recommended for users of IE5, IE6, IE7, and IE8 beta 2.

Mozilla's security updates come in the form of new Firefox versions: Firefox 3.0.5 for 3x users, and Firefox 2.0.0.19 for 2x users.

The 3.0.5 update fixes a handful of security issues found in the 3.0.4 browser and repairs several stability problems as well. It also adds extra language support, improves the installation process, fixes some accessibility problems, and strengthens the Firefox crash reporter tool.

The 2.0.0.19 update handles only the basic security issues. It is the last planned update for the 2x series of Firefox, and Mozilla is recommending any remaining 2x users upgrade to the 3.0.5 version soon.

I knew Xbox had a problem when everytime you would touch the console it would scratch your games. I have been lucky enough not to have lost any games. My friend has lost a butt load of them though. He has to always buy the insurance now on them so he is not 50 bucks a pop.

Remember last week's story about Jason Johnson, the Illinois man who sued Microsoft over his Xbox 360's alleged habit of scratching his game DVDs?

Documents unsealed in his court case revealed Microsoft discovered its Xbox 360 could scratch discs before it went on sale in 2005, and even got as far as considering three possible solutions to the problem, the Seattle Tech Report revealed today.

The characteristic circular scratches can occur whenever the orientation of the console -- which is designed to be used in either a horizontal or vertical position -- is changed while the drive is spinning. Johnson filed his suit after his console scratched three store-bought game discs, and is seeking $50,000 in punitive damages.

Testimony obtained from a Microsoft program manager indicates that Microsoft became aware of the problem months before the 360's launch when retail demonstration consoles malfunctioned. The company examined three solutions: strengthening the magnets that hold the discs in place, slowing the rotational speed of the discs, and installing rubber bumpers to cushion the discs, but rejected them all. Installing the bumpers could have cost as little as $0.50 per console, the suit claims.

It's not the first time Microsoft has come under fire for alleged foreknowledge of Xbox 360 hardware issues, either. Back in September, an expose penned by VentureBeat writer Dean Takahashi claimed systemic failures in Microsoft's design and quality assurance processes lead to the Xbox 360's now-infamous overheating "Red Ring of Death" failures.

Sony finally releases Home

After looking at it for a bit, it does remind me of second life in some ways. It is about time though that Sony catches up with other gaming systems in their quest to be top console. I personally like the Wii better because Overall gameplay with friends and such.

After years of development and promotion, Sony is launching its PlayStation Home service today. Home, as we've described in a previous post, is the much-touted virtual world that will be open to those who have connected their PlayStation 3s to the Internet.

After logging in to Home, players create custom avatars and explore a virtual 3D environment that looks like a pixel-perfect cross between the Metreon shopping center in San Francisco and the boat docks in Sausalito. There are also virtual shopping malls, clubs with themes based on Sony games and theaters to watch game trailers or other video.

Home is Sony's answer to Xbox Live, the online marketplace and player matching service operated by Microsoft for its Xbox 360 game console.

Sony isn't divulging its business plans for Home just yet, saying it wants to see how its PlayStation 3 customers use the service before fleshing out the offerings. What are the possibilities? The Japanese electronics giant has built in the technical ability to sell virtual items, digital music, games and video. For now, the company is starting out small by giving players a virtual place to hang out, go play online games or watch a few game trailers.

It's Official: Walmart Will Sell iPhones

My wife has an Iphone and she loves it. She will probably be pissed off when she found out that she could have gotten it for 99 dollars at Walmart. Only if she had something called patience. LOL

Walmart on Monday confirmed rumors that the retail chain will sell iPhones.

Employees in the cellphone departments of five California stores said they were training to start selling the device by the end of December, according to Bloomberg.

Gadget blog The Boy Genius Report was the first to leak rumors about Walmart carrying iPhones. The publication also hinted at the possibility of Walmart selling a 4GB iPhone for $99. However, this rumor is appearing unlikely to be true: MacRumors reports it received training and advertising materials for Walmart's iPhone, and there are no indications of a $99 model.

Walmart will become the second mass-market retail chain to carry Apple's phenomenally successful iPhone. In September, electronics retailer Best Buy was the first to do the honors. Getting help selling iPhones from a pair of the largest retail companies will only elevate Apple's domination over the mobile phone industry.

I know this sin't about a Gadget, but since he is the founder of majority of them then I thought I would post about it. I thought it was kinda strange that Someone who has nothing to do polictics. I know why he is doing it though. It is because he wants people to have money to buy his products.

(CNN) -- Microsoft founder Bill Gates told CNN on Wednesday that he hopes President-elect Barack Obama and Congress immediately craft a wide-ranging stimulus package, to help jump-start the nation's sputtering economy, and double the United States' commitment to foreign aid.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates spoke exclusively Wednesday with CNN's Wolf Blitzer.

"Clearly we need a stimulus that doesn't undermine the incentive for businesses to be careful about their spending and making those correct investments," Gates told CNN's Wolf Blitzer in an exclusive interview airing on The Situation Room on Wednesday and Thursday.

Gates, one of the world's richest men and founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is also calling on Obama to increase investments in the nation's education system and spur technological advances to improve agriculture, prevent disease, and promote economic growth in the world's poorest nations.

"The key point I'd make is that in addition to that stimulus, you've got to fund the kind of scientific work and educational investments that could really have us be a much better country as we emerge from the recession," he said. Watch Gates discuss economy »

On his Web site, Obama has pledged to double the United States' annual investment in foreign aid to $50 billion by the end of his first term, with the goal of fully funding debt cancellation for poor nations and fighting AIDS and global poverty.

In the interview with CNN, Gates said he thinks Obama will live up to that commitment.

"Obviously it's the Congress that gets to actually vote the final decision for how the money is spent, but I do think he will get to that commitment," Gates said. "I am thrilled to be able to see that people are responding to the success stories. Aid from the United States did go up in the last eight years."

The interview came shortly before the Microsoft founder delivered a wide-ranging speech at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., during which he reiterated his call for a major new stimulus package to spur job growth.

"Spending is the only way we'll ever come out of this downturn, and with businesses, state governments and consumers pulling back, the federal government must step forward," Gates told the crowd.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has distributed more than $17 billion in grant commitments in all 50 states and 100 countries. In his interview with CNN, Gates said he had personally given more than $30 billion to the foundation.

Circuit City Black Friday Deals: Wii, Xbox 360 and DS Best for Games

No sooner had Best Buy offered up their Black Friday 2008 ad, Circuit City followed quickly with their ad deals. The Circuit City ad shows a number of great deals to be had on a number of video games; some games on certain consoles have more deals than the others.

Deals for games on the Sony PSP, PS2 and PS3 are not as extensive as on the Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and Wii. Black Friday is an important day for Circuit City, who recently declared bankruptcy. Hopefully shoppers will be able to show that people still have money to spend in stores, and could be a great sign for the start of the holiday season.

Best Buy's "doorbuster" sales will begin in their stores at 5 a.m. on Black Friday. Here is a run down of their sale items from Black Friday 2008.

Best Buy just released their Black Friday Secret Sale Item listings on their website.

The list is divided into two sections, the first are deals that will be available both online and in-store, while the second are deals that will be available in-store only. We have posted the online available items in our 13-item Best Buy Online Black Friday listing.

Best Buy states that you will be able to "start shopping early at BestBuy.com on Thursday, Nov 27th," but does not list a time.

What's funny is that all but one item, in the in-store only list, were already advertised in the Best Buy Black Friday advertisement. The item missing from the Black Friday advertisement? The HP G50-104NR Laptop with Canon 3-in-1 Printer.

Black Friday ads are being looked into like crazy. Here is some info stemming from Target Black Friday ads, K-mart Black Friday ads, Best Buy Black Friday ads, and Wal-mart Black Friday ads. The Boston Herald projects this to be one of the worst shopping seasons we've seen in years, and retailers cannot afford discounts like those once offered.

Target

The store opens at 6 a.m., according to bfads.net. At Appletell, it's clear that Target will be giving most of its deals prior to Thanksgiving. You'll find a lot of toys and games savings using their coupons, generally for $5 and $10 off particular items. Video games systems will be on sale on Black Friday (in bundles, including extras like gift cards), and you can find deals like the $11 Nintendo DS game Dr. Seuss: How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Family games like Operation are being sold for $10, when these items often go for twice as much.

K-mart

Friday and Saturday, the store opens at 6 a.m. Call it Black Weekend. One ad features the TracFone Prepaid Color Flip-Phone at half-off, for $9.99. It comes with a free bonus pack worth about $20, which includes a head-set, phone case, and car charger-- but expect limited quantities. Today and tomorrow you can take 5-10% off almost everything ordered online. Even more sales are expected online and in-store on Thanksgiving Day. K-mart had a lot of desirable pre-Black Friday sales in the second week of November and prices are not expected to change very much, if at all.

Best Buy

Stores open at 5 a.m. Last minute "secret items/sales" have been released today. If GPS is your thing, Gadgetell was pleased to see the TomTom One LE for only $120. Another find was a PS3 bundle (16 only, 1 per customer) priced at $400 (after the $90 cut) in-store only, ticket required for purchase (handed out in the line to get in?). Some of Best Buy's sales are online only while many are in-store only.

Best Buy Black Friday ads which were "leaked" earlier this month were judged as being so horrible, among the worst seen so far by bfads.net, leaving some to speculate that Best Buy is relying on secret sales.

Wal-mart

Sales begin at 5 a.m. Last minute "secret items" for Wal-mart were also released today. You can find a Nintendo Wii for just under $250-- expect to pay about $30 more at Target; a 2 for $30 DS game bundle (like ATV/Monster Truck Mayhem, and Master of Illusion); and, the Garmin nuvi 200 Portable GPS for $97.

In contrast to Best Buy, Wal-mart had some of the best Black Friday ads, favored by the folks over at bfads.net.

My conclusion? Just stay home. Enjoy the day after Thanksgiving. It's just not worth it to go out during your holiday into madness hoping for the deal of the year when everything is bleaker than usual. For more on avoiding Black Friday mayhem, check out one previous article of mine.

If you like high tech gizmos and gadgets then Cyber Monday will be for you. Great day to try and find more sales out there on the latest technology for you and your family.

Cyber Monday, the Monday after Thanksgiving, is expected to be more promotional than ever this year because of the "challenging" holiday shopping season, the National Retail Federation said today.

An estimated 83.7 percent of online retailers will have a special promotion for Cyber Monday, up from 72.2 percent last year, said the federation, a trade group for merchants, and though many consumers now have high-speed Internet connections in their homes, more than half of the people with Internet at work are expected to shop at the office, the federation said.

The term Cyber Monday was coined after online retailers noticed large numbers of people shopping online on the Monday after Thanksgiving. One theory was that window-shopping at the malls over the holiday weekend put folks in a buying mood. Another theory was that several years ago, when the Internet was just going mainstream, many people preferred to take advantage of their boss's high-speed Internet connection at the office rather than attempt to shop online at home with an Internet connection that relied on a maddeningly slow dial-up modem.

The most popular promotions for Cyber Monday 2008 are "expected to be specific deals (38.8 percent), e-mail campaigns (32.7 percent), and one-day sales (24.5 percent)," the National Retail Federation said in a press release. "Additionally, nearly one-fourth of retailers (22.5 percent will offer free shipping on all purchases."

Sprint Nextel Executive John Garcia to Leave

Customer Service is always a big issue for companies. If you have bad customer service then you are going to fail in the long run of running the company. I have heard that Sprint has improved its customer Service, but it is still no where near the standards where they need to be.

John Garcia, a top Sprint Nextel Corp. executive in charge of one of the wireless carrier's main business units, is leaving the company, a spokeswoman said.

Mr. Garcia is stepping down as head of the CDMA business, the unit that control's 70% of Sprint's customer base. The circumstances of Mr. Garcia's departure were not clear. The company spokeswoman declined to comment, and Mr. Garcia could not immediately be reached for comment.

Sprint has tapped Keith Cowan, president of strategy and corporate development, as an interim replacement for Mr. Garcia while it searches for a successor.

Sprint has had considerable turnover in upper management in the past year as it looks to revive its ailing business and catch up to rivals AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless. Dan Hesse, who took over as Sprint's chief executive late last year, has overhauled most top staff, adding a new chief financial officer, Robert Brust, while ousting executives such as Tim Kelly, former marketing chief, and Mark Angelino, former head of sales and distribution.

Last week, Sprint said it was offering voluntary buyout packages to some employees.

Sprint's other main business unit, iDen, is the result of its 2005 acquisition of Nextel Communications Inc. The rocky merger has led to increased subscriber defections and quarterly losses. Sprint has made progress in customer service, but its user base continues to shrink. And executives are concerned that the economic slowdown could become a bigger drag on earnings if more customers are unable to pay their bills.

As of the third quarter, AT&T had 74.9 million subscribers, Verizon had 70.8 million and Sprint had fallen to a distant third at 50.5 million.

Sprint sought to address concerns about its liquidity recently by renegotiating key credit agreements to give it increased flexibility to have a higher ratio of debt relative to earnings.

Mr. Garcia is well respected in the industry for his knowledge of wireless, especially Internet-enabled mobile devices that are getting increasingly complex.

He was previously senior vice president of product development, overseeing the company's pipeline of new devices.

Mr. Garcia also was president of Sprint's joint venture with several major cable operators, Pivot, which ran into bureaucratic and marketing challenges and was scrapped earlier this year. Cable companies have struck a new partnership with Sprint, agreeing to help finance a separate joint venture with wireless Internet provider Clearwire Corp.

Google Government on clean-energy policy

Looks like Google is starting it's world takevover. Nah I am just kidding...Maybe. Anyways I think it would be a huge step foreward with technology to be able to wean ourself's off of unrenewable resources.

In just over 20 years, the U.S. could wean itself from coal and oil for electricity generation and nearly halve its gasoline consumption, according to an analysis done by energy experts at Google.

The search giant's Google.org philanthropy on Thursday released updated numbers and policy recommendations on how the U.S. could dramatically change its energy consumption by 2030.

According to its Clean Energy by 2030 Web site:

Google's proposal will benefit the U.S. by increasing energy security, protecting the environment, creating new jobs, and helping to create the conditions for long-term prosperity. Some of the necessary funds will be public, but much of it will come from the private sector--a typical approach for infrastructure and high technology investments.

The immediate policy proposals posted Thursday from Google.org program manager Michael Terrell and Google policy counsel Harry Wingo are:

• Change the renewable energy subsidy so it does not rely on tax credits, a policy that is less effective now because corporate profits are drying up.

• Fund existing programs to invest in smart grid technologies, which will allow consumers to monitor energy usage.

• A $3 billion appropriation to weatherize 1 million U.S. homes, which will cut energy bills by about 30 percent.

• Mandate that U.S. government agencies purchase renewable energy, use energy-efficient building products, and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

At the core of Google.org's energy transformation proposal are mandates to increase efficiency of electrical appliances and vehicles; rapid increase in the use of wind, solar, and geothermal; and a transition to plug-in vehicles.

Pressure building for fast action?
It's the most recent call to Washington leaders for quick action on energy and the environment.

President-elect Barack Obama earlier this week reiterated his campaign pledges to invest heavily in clean-energy programs and make the U.S. a leader on climate change.

Sen. Barbara Boxer on Thursday said that a simplified climate change bill will be introduced next year. Meanwhile, the replacement of Rep. John Dingell by Henry Waxman at the head of the House Energy and Commerce Committee is interpreted as a move that can accelerate energy policy reform.

Google first introduced its 2030 energy road map in October of this year; CEO Eric Schmidt, an adviser to Obama, made speeches earlier this year, calling on the federal government to show more leadership on climate change by fostering clean-technology businesses.

A number of other high-profile individuals and groups, including former Vice President Al Gore and businessman T. Boone Pickens, have called for government-led "moonshot" programs in energy, recalling how the Apollo Program in the 1960s led to a flourishing of technology progress.

Obama advisers have indicated that clean energy will be one of the incoming administration's top priorities, tied to economic recovery. Whether the administration can successfully pass legislation, such as regulations on carbon emissions, remains to be seen, of course.

There is significant support for action on climate change and clean energy among voters and businesses. But any sort of bold policy proposals will face stiff resistance in Congress.

In the past two years, several attempts to pass carbon regulations, renew renewable energy tax credits, and increase fuel-efficiency standards have been defeated.

This is a cool little gadget that I wouldn't mind finding unerneath the tree on christmas morning. Especially after it has been marked down almost 50%. You can;t go wrong there. But it does say something, they were trying to make a huge profit before they had to drop the price. I feel sorry for everyone who bought it at the old retail price.

In-car navigation systems have become one of the hot gift ideas (for yourself or someone else) for the holidays.

Amazon.com has a sale on the Plenio VXA-3000, a portable GPS system with a 7-inch screen and text-to-speech capability. It's been marked down from $599 to $329.

Two other navigation systems are also in the news. FUJITSU TEN Limited has announced that two of its ECLIPSE products, the AVN4430 and AVN726E, were honored by the Consumer Electronics Association at the recent New York Press Preview for the Consumer Electronics Show, set for Las Vegas Jan. 8-11, 2009.

The two models were named "2009 Design and Engineering Award Honorees" in the In-Vehicle Navigation/Telematics/ITS product category.

The AVN726E also received the highest scores in its category and was named "2009 Best of Innovations."

Saweet ride. I prefer the 2010 Mustang myself, but I can see the younger crowd going more for this ride instead. I know a few people who own a few 350Z's and they love them. They said they will never buy a different model again. I say the same thing about my Mustang too. So to each their own.

What they said: The Z-car is the “greatest performance value in the world,” said Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager of the Nissan division. But the “most powerful Z ever” hype was followed (all too closely) by, “In these trying times, we see a need to return to our roots,” with a pitch for the 34-mile-a-gallon, $9,990 Versa.

What they didn’t say: A few words — green, electric, hybrid and environment — were unmentionables at the unveiling, although Carlos Ghosn, chief executive of Nissan, handled those in his morning keynote address. new xbox experience release

I am not on xbox live so I wonder how I can get this update. I will be honest I really haven't seen much from this next gen consoles. I have seen what it can do, but no one has taken it that far yet. They might just have to work up to it which is fine. I love my xbox 360. Other than when I had to send it in because of the red ring of death. But this looks like it could be the next big thing for the console.

Almost exactly three years after its release, the Xbox 360 is releasing The New Xbox Experience, a never-been-done-before-on-this-scale software update that completely revamps the console with a slew of new features. But you already heard about it, haven't you? (If not, check out Christopher Null's hands-on review with the 'NXE')

Although an exact time hasn't been announced, the update will go live at some point tomorrow, November 19. Here are some important things you should know: (From Xbox.com)

How do I get it? You don’t have to do anything, really. The update will download just like a normal system update would. You will see a status bar letting you know how long it will take, and you won’t be able to use the console during this time. LG incite from AT&T

Looks like AT&T is trying to pull out the stops before this holiday season. I myself would of chose a different time to do it with the way the economic recession that is going on around the world. But This looks like a fun little gadget for the person who always has to have the biggest and best and of course new phone that is out on the market at the time. I haven't had a cell phone for over a year now and it is great. But some people need to have a phone and the lg incite might be the phone for you. Read the review below and find out.

Wow, I just can’t keep up with AT&T’s high end mobile phone releases. Today, AT&T and LG announced the availability today of the LG INCITE Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional device. This is the first entry into Windows Mobile in the U.S. by LG and it looks like a direct competitor to the outstanding Samsung OMNIA that is a major iPhone challenger. I just picked up the HTC Fuze on Saturday and after looking at the specs on this device think the Fuze is still better for my needs.

The LG INCITE has some pretty good specifications, including Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, 3 inch 240×400 WQVGA display, 3 megapixel camera, UMTS/HSDPA support, 256MB ROM/128MB RAM, integrated GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, and 1300 mAh battery. I don’t think the display can compare with the new VGA displays on the HTC Fuze and BlackBerry Bold.

I am interested in seeing the device though because I want to see what LG may have added themselves to the Windows Mobile OS since often manufacturers add tools and functionality that adds to the experience. This is a full screen only device with no keypad or keyboard (similar to the iPhone). It is availble for US$199.99 after a 2-year contract and US$100 mail-in rebate. The full no-commitment price is US$499.99.

Ford Unveils 2010 mustang

Saweet. I have been a fan of the Ford Mustang since the 60's even though they ruined the model in the early 70's, but they finally brought it back in 2005. Now it looks like they are going sleeker and very nice. I own a 2006 Ford Mustang myself and I love it. I can't wait to see what it looks like in greater detail. I won't have the money to trade in for one, But I still love my 06' Mustang.

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — Ford Motor Co. tries to revive its classic Mustang muscle car with a makeover for the 2010 model year that debuts at this week's Los Angeles Auto Show.
Tuesday's introduction comes as the Dearborn automaker and U.S. rivals General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC struggle with plunging sales and a severe financial crisis.
Ford sold 83,557 Mustangs in the U.S. in the first 10 months of the year, down 30 percent from 118,959 in the same period of 2007. Overall company sales fell 18 percent in the period to 1.66 million.
The 2010 Mustang has what the company calls a "new muscular, sculptured exterior," along with larger wheels, adjusted suspension and more power. Ford says the V-6 engine has 210 horsepower and the V-8 version has 315 horsepower.
"The best Mustangs have always been the ones that connect young America with the spirit of the times — and the 2010 does exactly that," J Mays, Ford's vice president for design, said in a news release. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe Now Available

This is one of those games that is going to either be really good or really bad and people won't remember it in 6 months. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe could potentially help pull Midway out of a slump that they have had for the past few years. If I was to play for the Mortal Kombat side I would have to go with scorpion or Sub-Zero. DC I would have to go Batman hands down.

And I never expected a crossover between the two universes. Until today, when Midway Games Inc. announced that Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe has finally arrived on store shelves.

Unfortunately for PC gamers, it's a PS3 / Xbox 360 release only. MSRP is $59.99, with the Kollector's Edition priced at $69.99.

How do DC Universe characters end up fighting Mortal Kombat characters? Simple: parallel dimensions, corrupt boom tubes (the transportation system used by characters of New Genesis and Apokolips in the DC Universe), blah, blah. It all makes sense, right? Midway toned down the violence and achieved a "Teen" rating for this game. After all, associating with DC Comics heroes, you'd have to figure there'd be some changes made. And one is that, while Mortal Kombat characters and DC Comics villains can all do fatalities, DC Comics heroes can only do "Heroic Brutalities." Let's not forget that Superman has vowed to never take a life, after all.

One fear I had when hearing about this game was that all they'd do was basically swap characters and the DC Comics characters wouldn't get individualized moves based on their actual powers. That doesn't seem to be the case, as evidenced by the screenshots above.

There's an arcade mode, which is much as you would expect, and a story mode. One half of the story mode focuses on Mortal Kombat and the on the DC Universe. Each half has multiple chapters, with each chapter having you play as a different character. Heroes (and villains) try to determine what the comic book-ish writers have gotten them into.

Sounds sorta Crisis on Infinite Earths-ish, does it not?

In their press release, Scott Johnson, vice president, business development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (DC's parent company) said:

"Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe brings together iconic characters from both the DC Comics’ and Mortal Kombat videogame universes to give gamers the opportunity to take part in extraordinary battles. So, will this new chapter in the MK gaming universe produce a fatality for the series, a heroic brutality, or just some solid sales? It's likely to garner some interest due to the added characters, but the story mode only lasts about six hours. There's the arcade mode, but that will eventually become repetitive (which is what eventually drove me from earlier MK games). Still, the game will likely be successful, earnings-wise.

The space shuttle Endeavor is set to launch this evening with an odd assortment of cargo—including live spiders, butterflies, and new technology to turn urine into drinking water.

The shuttle was cleared for a Friday launch from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida earlier this week, despite a 40 percent chance that a cold front could stir up rain and thick clouds.

Besides seven astronauts, Endeavor's cargo includes two new sleeping chambers, a second toilet, and a water-purification system, all of which will let NASA double the occupancy of the International Space Station to six.

The new mission is the 124th space shuttle flight and the 27th to the International Space Station. The seven-member crew will spend 15 days performing basic maintenance on the station before returning to Earth.

The launch is set for 7:55 p.m. eastern standard time. Forecasters have put the odds of acceptable conditions at 70 percent on Friday and just 40 percent on Saturday, with a much better chance of success on Sunday.

Full Circle

This mission is "all about home improvements" at the International Space Station, said Endeavor commander Chris Ferguson in a statement.

That includes a state-of-the-art, urine-purification system to enhance the station's water-recycling abilities. Astronauts already recycle the steam from their showers, the water from their shaving and toothbrushing—even their sweat.

Mike Leinbach, shuttle-launch director, said the "truly closed-loop water system" is the most exciting cargo aboard Endeavor.

"Reusing water in orbit is an essential technology for the longer-term missions that lie ahead—those to the moon, the near Earth asteroids, and Mars," he wrote in an email on Thursday.

"The thought of drinking this water may turn some people off, but once it has been processed, tested, and proven 'clean,' fill my glass!"

But the flight's more mundane cargo will be appreciated, too. Said payload manager Joe Delai: "You know as your family grows, that second bathroom can become very handy. Well, our ISS family is growing and having a second toilet is a good thing."

Creepy Crawlies

Live cargo will also accompany the crew on this trip: young spiders and butterflies and the nectar and fruit flies on which they'll feed.

The creatures are part of two experiments involving hundreds of elementary and middle school students in Colorado.

For the first experiment, astronauts will observe the life cycle of painted lady butterflies in space, while students monitor the creatures in classrooms on Earth.

The second experiment will compare the ability of an orb-weaving spider to spin webs and catch food on Earth and in space.

Bioserve Space Technologies, at the University of Colorado at Boulder, will downlink videos and images of the spiders and butterflies from the space station to its partners: the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster, Colorado, and the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

Eileen Patrick is a librarian at Rocky Mountain Elementary School in Westminster, Colorado, near Denver. As of Thursday, her butterfly larvae were incubating in her bathroom.

If they survive the weekend, she'll begin her experiment next week with the 30 or so fourth and fifth graders who attend her after-school science program.

"If you want to raise the next generation of scientists, you don't wait until they're halfway through college to engage them in science, to fire them up," she said. "Live animals are immediately fascinating and engaging to kids."

I have two opinions on this. I think it is great that we are growing as a world nation and joining hands with Japan and other countries, but I can see a lot of older people that will not be able to make this jump because of World War 2. Looks like another new Product from the former Boxer. George Foreman is coming out with another kitchen appliance, the George Foreman Lean Mean Fryer.

The "lean" in this frying machine is Smart Spin technology that removes oil after frying. Now that is pretty nifty if you ask me. To bad they can't do that for every kind of food, not just for grilling or frying.

The company says the fryer removes 55% of the fat that is absorbed during frying by spinning it out. But where is the taste. that means 55% of the taste is gone. I am just kidding of course. I don't even like gravy.

The deep fryer retails for $149.99. Ouch That is a hit in my pocket though. I don't think I will be getting this little gadget.

odesk jobs

I think this may be a fun little technology gagdet that will be useful to a lot of people that may not have the advantage of working in some of these places. But it might take away jobs in other places when they would have the jobs there. As long as it doesn't go overseas I don't have a problem with it.

LCD Price Fixing - LG, Sharp and Chunghwa Fined

Years of investigating has finally came up with something. LG, Sharp and Chunghwa have admitted to participating in a cartel between 2001 and 2006 that fixed prices of LCD screens. The Justice Department has ordered the companies pony up $580 million in fines—$400 million from LG, $120 million from Sharp and $65 million from Chunghwa. But where are the fines going to go? I think they should repay every consumer purchase through that time myself.

Justice Department say these price fixing schemes specifically targeted TFT-LCD panels sold to Dell , Motorola, and Apple. So, by screwing them they screwed us all. So that should mean that the prices for these retailers should come down within the following weeks as well right?

I wouldn't think so. Just like Gas prices. YOu see the price of Oil come down, but it will be a week or two before you see it come down at the pumps. But they sure are high the next day when the price goes up. I think this will be the same situation myself.

Well the time has finally arrived. Google has done it. We now have Video Chat for all Google users.

Google Inc. Tuesday introduced Gmail voice and video chat, which lets users have free voice and video conversations. Also, the company launched a free web service Google Flu Trends, providing up-to-date influenza-related activity estimates for each of the 50 states in the U.S, even though all the experts usually get the wrong strain for the year.

In order to make use of the voice and video chat, just click on the new "Video & more" menu in a Gmail chat window and find "Start video chat" or "Start voice chat." Voice conversations can be had alongside email and regular chat without a webcam.

Google Flu Trends, built with the help of U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, was established after finding that a lot of search queries tend to be common during flu season each year.
